Southern Miss blows out MVSU 91-46

HATTIESBURG, Miss. (AP) — Gary Flowers scored 19 points and Southern Mississippi defeated Mississippi Valley State 91-46 on Wednesday night in the first round of the Hardwood Club Holiday Tournament.

The Golden Eagles (10-2) had three players in double figures and outrebounded MVSU 51-41, handing the Delta Devils (1-11) their 10th straight road loss.

Southern Miss outscored MVSU 14-4 in the paint en route to a 41-20 halftime lead, and led by as many as 49 in the second half.

Flowers’ 19 led all scorers, and LaShay Page added 17 points for Southern Miss. Golden Eagle freshman guard D.J. Newbill recorded his fourth double-double of the season with 11 points and 10 rebounds.

Mississippi Valley center Paul Crosby scored 12 to lead the Delta Devils and D’Angelo Jackson made 8 of 10 free throws on his way to 10 points.
