Gardeners interested in improving access to healthy food — and helping others grow their own — are invited to take a four-part Growing Groceries Mentor Program.

The series will focus on training gardeners to train others. Topics will include selecting garden sites, vegetable gardening, irrigation and soils, pest management, working with community groups and technical resources.

People who complete the course will be matched with neighborhood associations, schools, churches and emergency food groups and community garden sites. The program is sponsored by Clark County Public Health and the Washington State University Clark County Extension.

The training sessions will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Jan. 8, Feb. 12, March 12 and April 9. The site is the Portal Cafe, 2007 E. 12th St. A $50 fee covers the sessions and course materials. Scholarships may be available. An optional $5 CD includes additional publications and resources. Bring a sack lunch.

To register, contact Carolyn Gorden at 360-397-6060, ext. 7718, or carolyn.gordon@clark.wa.gov.
