Some prefer to ring in the New Year with a quiet toast in the comfort of their own home. But those who favor a New Year’s Eve blast off have serious options to consider: A family outing? A group date? Party of two? Going out stag?

Restaurants and lounges are preparing to give 2011 a warm welcome — no matter how cold it is outside. You might want to prepare to make your rounds from a bluesy funk to a masquerade ball and even get a feel for the celebration Irish style. Here are some options.

• Big Al’s: The family-friendly bowling and restaurant lounge is offering special bowling packages from 9:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. Power House Lanes are available for four guests at $100 per lane. Each additional bowler is $25. Slider Alley Lanes are also available for four guests at $150 per lane. Each additional bowler is $40. Lanes are restricted to a maximum of six players.

The package includes bowling for three hours, shoe rental, party favors and midnight toast of champagne for guests 21 years and older, and cider for underage guests.

Big Al’s is also known for its 8-by-36-foot screen that stretches out across the bar. Guests can watch the Times Square ball drop on the screen and celebrate with a balloon drop in the main foyer.

Kids can play in the arcade while adults enjoy the happy hour menu along with billiards and the 22-foot shuffleboard in the bar area.

Where: 16615 S.E. 18th Ave., Vancouver.
