EVERETT, Wash. (AP) — A 40-year-old Gold Bar, Wash., man has pleaded not guilty to a first-degree murder charge in the gruesome slaying of his ex-girlfriend.

Prosecutors allege that Eric Christensen killed 35-year-old Sherry Harlan, dismembered her body and asked a friend to drive him around part of Snohomish County to dispose of the remains.

Prosecutors say the friend eventually contacted investigators and led them to spots were body parts were recovered.

Christensen entered his plea Monday in Snohomish County Superior Court. He remains jailed on $5 million bail, with trial set for March 19.

Prosecutors say Harlan was killed between Jan. 2 and 3 after Christensen found a text message from another man on her cellphone. Court papers say Christensen told police the message was evidence that Harlan had broken a “Wiccan blood oath” she’d made to break off a relationship with the other man.
