The Vancouver Police Department announced today they will no longer accept unwanted prescription drugs and other controlled substances.

The department’s East Precinct, S.E. 155th Ave., accepted pain killers, tranquilizers and illegal drugs for more than a year, but has halted the program in response to recent staff reductions, according to a press release.

Other area law enforcement agencies will continue accepting unwanted controlled substances from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, including:

Battle Ground Police Department, 507 S.W. First St.

Camas Police Department, 2100 N.E. Third Ave.

Clark County Sheriff West Precinct, 505 N.W. 179th St.

Clark County Sheriff Central Precinct, 11608 N.E. 149th St.

Clark County Sheriff Headquarters, 707 W. 13th St.

La Center Police Department, 214 E. Fourth St.

Ridgefield Police Department, 116 N. Main (8:30 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday- Friday)

Washougal Police Department, 1302 A St.

Unwanted controlled substances taken to these sites must be sealed in an original container to prevent leaking. Patient information must be removed or marked out, according to the release.

The Medications Take Back Program began in 2003 as a partnership between Clark County and local pharmacies to safely dispose of unwanted or outdated medications, according to the release.
