The Clark College women’s basketball team worked overtime Saturday before coming away with a 76-68 win over Highline at the O’Connell Center.

Heritage High grad Chawncy McClennan scored 22 points to go with 10 rebounds and six steals to lead the Penguins (11-7, 8-3 NWAACC West).

Rene Tzeo had 20 points, seven assists and six steals, and Chelsea Dyson added 16 points for the Penguins.

Clark had Highline (10-9, 6-4) down 13 points before the Thunderbirds climbed back to force overtime.

Highline scored the first five points in the OT, and Clark responded by scoring the next 13.

“We are trying to teach the possession game,” Clark coach Nancy Boone said. “Not so much outscoring the other team, but playing the smart possession and that is what we did, especially in the overtime.”

Clark men 69, Highline 51 — Stephon Hopkins scored 20 points and Evergreen High grad Travis Garrison added 10 as the Penguins won their second consecutive game.

Clark (7-12, 5-6) took advantage of Highline’s poor shooting night as well as 24 Highline turnovers that resulted in 22 points.

Highline (10-8, 7-3), which entered the game in second place in the NWAACC West, shot 26.8 percent from the field.

Clark, which got 53 points off the bench, shot 41 percent in the second half.

“We changed up our lineup, the shots started to drop and we only had 12 turnovers,” Clark coach Mike Arnold said. “We still have the goal of making the tournament.”
