SEATTLE (AP) — A suspect is wounded and two police officers are suffering from minor injuries in a confrontation in Kitsap County.

Suquamish Police Chief Mike Lasnier says the violence erupted as officers went to a residence on Saturday night to check on reports of shots being fired.

He says in a statement that they found a 34-year-old man with several previous convictions who was wanted for probation violations and tried to arrest him. But the suspect got into a car and drove toward the officers.

The chief says one officer was struck by the bumper and another’s foot was run over but both managed to fire and the suspect was wounded.

The man was hospitalized in Seattle but there was no word on his condition and his name was not immediately available. The injured officers were treated and released at a Bremerton hospital.
