Former BG police chief applicant in Dallas, Texas

James McDaniel was fired

Former Battle Ground Police Chief James McDaniel is in the running for the top position at the Dallas,Texas, Police Department.

McDaniel is one of 10 people who have applied for the position, and additional applicants are expected, according to the city.

Battle Ground City Manager Dennis Osborn fired McDaniel in December, citing a desire to take the department in a new direction.

Dallas city officials hope to hire a chief by April, when its current police chief retires, according to the city’s spokesman.

The Dallas city manager will narrow the list of applicants to a few finalists, who will be involved in community meetings. After gathering community feedback, the city manager will choose a new police chief.

Among the applicants are a former deputy chief from Detroit, an assistant chief from Houston and an assistant chief from Washington D.C. To date, no one from the Dallas Police Department has submitted an application for the position.
