Burgerville is one step closer to meeting its goal of offering packaging at its fast-food restaurants that can be composted or recycled.

The Vancouver-based chain has partnered with Memphis, Tenn.-based International Paper Co. and The Coca-Cola Co. to offer the patented Ecotainer-brand soft drink cups and lids.

Ecotainer is made using fiber sourced from sustainably managed forests and is coated with plant-based polylactic acid to create a water-resistant barrier.

Burgerville’s only remaining non-recyclable items now include plastic and foil condiment packs, such as ketchup packets.
