YAKIMA, Wash. (AP) — Investigators say the fire that killed a woman in Yakima was likely started by a smoldering cigarette.
Deputy Fire Marshall Ron Melcher told KAPP-TV the fire burned for some time before someone noticed smoke coming from the house Thursday morning. The 62-year-old woman lived alone.
Firefighters found her body in the living room where she apparently had been smoking on a couch.
Damage to the house is estimated at $100,000.
