Vancouver-Portland area on list of happiest cities
Tuesday, February 16, 2010
WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Portland-Vancouver-Beaverton metro area ranked No. 59 out of the top 100 happiest and healthiest American cities, according to a study released today by Gallup and Healthways.
Cities in Western states, in general, ranked higher than those in the rest of the country, with Boulder, Colo., coming out on top. Residents of large cities — those with a population of 1 million or more — generally report higher levels of well-being and more optimism about the future than those in small or medium-sized cities.
The study of more than 353,000 Americans in 2009 provides a look at how Americans feel about their jobs, health, lives and futures.
