SEATTLE (AP) — A Washington State Patrol trooper has filed a $3 million lawsuit against the man accused of shooting him in the head in Long Beach. Trooper Scott Johnson’s lawyer filed suit Thursday against 45-year-old Martin A. Jones of Seaview, who was arrested earlier this week for investigation of assault and attempted murder.
Jones has been ordered held on $5 million bail in the Pacific County Jail in South Bend.
Court papers say Jones is the husband of a woman whose van was being towed early Saturday after a drunken driving stop. The trooper was supervising the impounding of the van when he was shot in the back of the head.
Johnson’s lawyer Jeffery Campiche says his client has filed suit because the trooper feels Jones should be required to compensate him for the harm he has suffered.
