A furnace fire did extensive damage to a two-story house northeast of Battle Ground this morning, according to Clark County Fire District 3.

The fire was reported at 10:31 a.m. at 20714 N.E. 265th St. by a 19-year-old who was awakened by smoke in the home’s basement, according to a press release. The teen and his parents escaped without injuries.

Clark County Deputy Fire Marshal Susan Anderson determined the fire started in the furnace, located in the basement, and grew to the main floor of the house, the press release said.

The house’s smoke detectors did not operate during the fire, the press release said.

Crews from Fire District 3, Clark County Fire & Rescue, American Medical Response and the Clark County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene.
