Rally about cuts to state programs set for today
Tuesday, February 23, 2010
A statewide coalition that is opposed to a second year of deep cuts in state-funded programs will host a rally today at the Marshall Community Center beginning at 6:30 p.m.
The rally is one of several around the state being organized by the Rebuilding Our Economic Future Coalition. State Sen. Craig Pridemore, D-Vancouver, will participate via video conference.
Organizer Joshua Welter said he expects parents, students, nurses, patients, health clinic administrators, teachers and others to protest a proposed new round of budget cuts that would cost thousands of Washington residents their medical coverage, reduce environmental protection and eliminate college aid for some students.
Both the House and Senate are expected to unveil their 2010-11 budgets this week.
The Marshall Community Center is at 1009 E. McLoughlin Blvd.
