Oregon police have accused a Vancouver man of driving more than 100 miles per hour as he allegedly led them on a chase along Highway 30 Monday. The pursuit ended when the driver crashed into a Sauvie Island gate.

Ashley Wade Siclovan, 35, was lodged in the Columbia County, Ore. Jail on suspicion of felony attempt to elude in a vehicle, first-degree criminal mischief, second-degree kidnapping, reckless driving, recklessly endangering another person and misdemeanor attempt to elude on foot. There was also an outstanding felony warrant for Siclovan’s arrest on a charge of unlawful possession of a controlled substance.

At about 9 p.m. Monday, an Oregon State Police trooper spotted a 1993 Subaru Legacy that had been reported as a possible intoxicated driver by a Rainier, Ore. police officer transporting an arrested person to the jail. The state trooper attempted to stop the vehicle but it sped past in excess of 100 miles per hour.

The driver continued at that speed for 18 miles, according to a press release issued by the Oregon State Police.

As the Subaru neared the Sauvie Island Bridge the driver slowed to about 40 miles per hour and began turning left toward the island when the “trooper attempted a tactical vehicle intervention technique,” police said. It failed to stop the Subaru but resulted in damage to one of the police vehicle’s tires, according to the release.

When the car reached the island, a female passenger climbed out. The Subaru continued several miles before crashing into an Oregon Fish & Wildlife Department gate.

The alleged driver got out and fled on foot, but was detained by an officer at about 9:20 p.m.

The female passenger told authorities he ignored her repeated requests to be let out.

Siclovan was cited for driving while suspended and for traveling more than 100 miles per hour in a 55-mile-per-hour zone.

The Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office, Portland Police Bureau, Scappoose Police Department and Columbia County Sheriff’s Office assisted in the arrest.
