JOINT BASE LEWIS-MCCHORD, Wash. (AP) — A memorial ceremony is scheduled Wednesday at Joint Base Lewis-McChord for a soldier from Kentucky killed in Afghanistan.

The Defense Department says 23-year-old Sgt. Adam J. Ray of Louisville was killed Feb. 9 by a homemade bomb attack on his unit.

Ray started his Army career as a hospital patient administration specialist then was trained as a rifleman.

He was a member of the 5th Stryker brigade. The News Tribune of Tacoma reports the brigade has lost 32 soldiers during the combat tour that began last July in Afghanistan.
