SEATTLE (AP) — The Environmental Protection Agency has reached agreement with a former mine operator to clean up an old lead and zinc mine in Washington’s northeast corner.
EPA announced the $1.36 million settlement agreement with Blue Tee Corp. on Friday.
The mine and mill near Leadpoint, just south of the U.S.-Canada border, operated intermittently between 1910 and the 1980s. It produced nearly a million tons of lead, zinc and barium tailings.
A 30-day public comment period on the proposed settlement ends March 26, 2010.
