The Clark College men’s basketball team saw its season end Saturday in a typically frustrating fashion in Lakewood.

Marquis Matthews scored with 3.5 second to play, giving Pierce College a 68-67 win in the season finale for the Penguins (7-17, 5-11).

“A spinning, turnaround, throw-it-up shot in the key,” Clark coach Mike Arnold said. “That’s our eighth loss by six points or less. I don’t know if I’ve ever had a year like that.”

Zach Walhder led Clark with 17 points, followed by Stephon Hopkins with 14 and Markeith Brown with 12. But the Penguins shot 37 percent from the field.

“The kids have not given up at all,” Arnold said. “That’s got to make you fell good about them and make them feel good about themselves.”
