If you’re interested in acquiring a plot of dirt to do some growing in, send your name on in.
Clark County’s 78th Street agriculture site — formerly owned and operated by Washington State University Vancouver — is going to be the site of a community garden this summer. The county is holding a lottery to determine who will get dozens of garden plots. Each winner will get a 20-by-20-foot plot for the season, April through October.
“Community gardens are an excellent way to grow your own healthy food,” said Sunrise O’Mahoney, the site coordinator. “You cannot get food any fresher.”
The lottery opened Feb. 20 and will close at 5 p.m. March 5. The drawing will be March 8, and winners will be notified by March 11. The cost is $40, although some scholarships are available.
