PORT ANGELES, Wash. (AP) — Peninsula Plywood Group has fired up the boiler at its Port Angeles mill, an important step as it prepares to start production later this month.
Company President Josh Renshaw says 40 people work at the mill now and it plans to hire another 100. He tells the Peninsula Daily News that the jobs will pay between $12 and $30 an hour, with benefits.
Testing of the boiler — which Renshaw calls the heart of the plant — started Wednesday.
Klukwan Inc. of Alaska halted production at the mill in November 2007. Sterling Savings Bank later seized the mill’s equipment, while the Port of Port Angeles seized the buildings. The new company acquired the equipment from the bank and signed a lease with the port.
