SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. (AP) — Law enforcement officers in Spokane Valley, Wash., evacuated nearby apartments Monday night as they worked to remove about a half pound of homemade explosive material from the apartment of a man reportedly upset about his divorce case.

Spokane County sheriff’s Sgt. Dave Reagan described the material as “very potent, very unstable explosives.”

Authorities say 53-year-old John D. Raymond has been arrested on a pre-existing civil bench warrant.

Officers contacted Raymond on Monday afternoon after receiving a tip.

The material reportedly has been identified as the powerful explosive TATP.
