YAKIMA, Wash. (AP) — The Yakima City Council is expected to approve a high-tech approach to help police fight graffiti.
The Yakima Herald-Republic reports a federal grant will pay nearly $82,000 for a contract with a Santa Monica, Calif., company called Graffiti Tracker that puts photos of graffiti in a database. Analysts can determine whether the graffiti is gang-related and whether the same vandal is responsible for multiple tags.
Last year the city installed automated cameras in high-traffic graffiti areas.
