EVERETT, Wash. (AP) — Everett police and the Everett School District have been investigating a Cascade High School student’s allegation that a teacher grabbed him by the throat.

Sgt. Robert Goetz says the boy’s parents called police Dec. 18 to report what their son said was an assault earlier that day on school grounds.

Physical education teacher Jake Huizinga has told The Herald he was involved in “an event” with a student on the afternoon of Dec. 18. He says it had nothing to do with his Dec 17 resignation as the school’s head football coach. He declined further comment.

The newspaper reports that when an officer looked at the boy at his home several hours after the alleged assault, the officer couldn’t see any signs of bruising.

Police have forwarded their misdemeanor assault investigation to city prosecutors.

The school district continues its investigation. District Human Resources Director Lynn Evans says the event was “related to the classroom” but says she can’t provide details.
