Denny Heck running for Baird’s seat in Congress

OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) — Former state Representative Denny Heck who founded the state TVW network says he will run for the 3rd District congressional seat Brian Baird is giving up.

Heck is a Democrat who lives in Olympia. He told The Daily News of Longview his campaign will focus on creating jobs and economic recovery in southwest Washington.

Baird was first elected to the Legislature in 1976 and served five terms. He then worked as chief of staff for Gov. Booth Gardner. In 1993 he founded the TVW public affairs network, a state version of C-Span.

The 57-year-old Baird co-owns a land development company and is a lead investor in an electronic medical records company called Digital Efficiency.
