BOISE, Idaho (AP) — Separate trials will be held for a man and woman accused of the beating death of an 8-year-old Boise boy last summer.

District Judge Darla Williamson decided Thursday to hold separate trials for Melissa Jenkins and Daniel Ehrlick.

Jenkins and Ehrlick are each charged with first-degree murder in the death of Jenkins’ son Robert Manwill. Thousands of Boise residents helped to search for the boy for more than a week after he was reported missing. His body was found Aug. 3 in an irrigation canal near Kuna.

The judge is still considering a request to move the trials out of Boise and a hearing will be held later this month on the request.

Both Jenkins and Ehrlick remain in the Ada County Jail.
