Seven people escaped unharmed from a mobile home fire in West Minnehaha early Saturday morning.

The double-wide mobile home at 1302 N.E. 45th St. was destroyed by the blaze, which also brought down nearby power lines, said Capt. Chris Moen with the Vancouver Fire Department.

The fire was reported at 1:14 a.m. When crews arrived on scene six minutes later, heavy fire was consuming the porch, and the mobile home was engulfed in flames, Moen said. Because the fire was so severe, crews battled the blaze from outside, he said.

At the time of the fire, three adults, four children and six dogs were inside the home. The dogs also made it out of the fire safely.

“One of the occupants got up to stoke the wood fire and saw the ceiling was on fire and woke everyone up and got everyone out, which is great,” Moen said.

Investigators are still trying to determine the cause of the fire and are focusing on the wood stove, he said. The home was considered a total loss, with $70,000 in damage. Damage to the contents of the mobile home is estimated at another $70,000. The property is owned by Robert and Sandra Siewert, according to the Clark County Assessors Office.

A total of 24 firefighters were on the scene Saturday morning. A crew stayed on the scene until 7 a.m. to ensure the blaze didn’t reignite. A crew from Clark Public Utilities also responded to de-energize the downed power lines.
