LONDON (AP) — An auctioneer says it is selling the 19th century sign that once stood above the most famous street in British politics.

Bonhams says it hopes the cast iron “Downing Street” sign will fetch up to 6,000 pounds (nearly $10,000) when it goes up for auction next week.

Downing Street was carved out of royal land by astucious property developer Sir George Downing in the late 17th century.

The street has been associated with the office of prime minister since Sir Robert Walpole moved to No. 10 in 1735.
