Deconstruction of Rufener farm to begin Monday

VANCOUVER — Deconstruction of the former Rufener farm in west Vancouver begins Monday to make way for the Port of Vancouver’s Centennial Industrial Park. Contractor I&E Construction of Clackamas, Ore. won the $150,000 contract to tear down the farm buildings and level the site north of Lower River Road across from the port’s offices. I&E plans to deconstruct the buildings, including a house, garage and barns, to salvage as much recyclable material as possible, according to the company. The work is scheduled for completion in April.

Because the property was farmed by the Rufener family for 75 years, “we felt it was important to take a respectful approach to the demolition,” said Karl Ivanov, president of I&E Construction, in a written statement, “so that the lumber and other materials could be used elsewhere in the community or incorporated into the new development.”
