SHERWOOD, Ore. (AP) — A Newberg man has been arrested for investigation of driving under the influence after crashing into a parked police cruiser in Sherwood.

The Oregon State Police say it happened on Highway 99 West early Sunday morning, and Sherwood police officer Jeffrey Fitzpatrick was sitting in the patrol car at the time. He was taken to a hospital for treatment of a possible minor injury.

The driver, identified as 29-year-old Paul D. McGiverin, was allegedly traveling about 45 mph when his car drifted onto the shoulder and rear-ended the cruiser.
