SEATTLE (AP) — Burlington Northern Santa Fe says freight train service has resumed between Seattle and Everett after crews cleared a new mudslide from one set of tracks about 10 miles north of Seattle. Railway spokesman Gus Melonas (muh-LOH’-nus) says work continues to remove debris from the second set of tracks in that area.

Sound Transit spokesman Bruce Gray says Sounder commuter rail service between Everett and Seattle will not resume until the Thursday evening commute at the earliest.

Melonas says a rain-saturated slope gave way around 7:30 a.m. Tuesday. The slide covered both sets of tracks and was about 20 feet deep and 40 feet wide. It took about 40 trees down, and flowed over the seawall and into Puget Sound.

It’s the third slide in the same area since Saturday.
