CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) — Gov. Dave Freudenthal is trying to persuade federal officials to allow more snowmobiles in Yellowstone National Park.

Freudenthal took a snowmobile tour of Yellowstone on Saturday with Deputy Interior Secretary David Hayes and Tom Strickland, the assistant Interior secretary for fish, wildlife and parks.

The National Park Service limits snowmobile traffic in the park to 318 machines a day under a two-year management plan that expires after next winter. Freudenthal says he urged the federal officials to raise the limit under the next management plan.

Wyoming and Park County also are suing the federal government over the current limit. The National Parks Conservation Association has joined the suit and supports the limit.
