PORT ANGELES, Wash. (AP) — Olympic National Park officials say the road to Hurricane Ridge will remain closed for an estimated six weeks after a large landslide earlier this week.
Engineers and park officials have inspected a washout just north of the Heart O’ the Hills campground where 100 feet of road crumbled away.
Park spokeswoman Barb Maynes says reconstruction work should begin no later than Friday. She declined to estimate the cost because the project has not gone to bid. She says the park is investigating possible detours around the slide.
Park officials say the hillside below the road gave way on Monday. The slide was caused by heavy rains.
