OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) — State regulators are recommending that no changes be made to state laws governing ferry service on Lake Chelan.
The Legislature last year directed the state Utilities and Transportation Commission to study the regulated commercial ferry service on the north-central Washington lake.
Some residents in Stehekin, a remote community at the end of the lake reachable only by boat or float plane, had complained about inadequate ferry service. But the commission said Tuesday that ferry service is adequate and should remain regulated by the state.
Lake Chelan Boat Co. has had the exclusive right to provide ferry service there since 1929. The company carries about 25,000 passengers each year.
