DETROIT (AP) — A judge is set to rule how much money former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick should be paying each month toward the $1 million restitution a court ordered him to make to the city.
Kilpatrick is required to appear at the hearing Wednesday in Wayne County Circuit Court. He had agreed to the restitution as part of a deal in which he stepped down from office and entered pleas in two criminal cases.
The former mayor says he has lowered his payments from $6,000 to $3,000 because his pay as a salesman for Dallas-based Covisint has fallen.
Prosecutors say he has been untruthful about his finances and want the judge to order Kilpatrick to pay a $225,000 lump sum. They also accuse him of violating his probation.
Kilpatrick spent 99 days in jail and was released Feb. 3.
