Union linebacker Taylor Nelson and Camas placekicker Stuart Jergensen were the winners of the top scholarships during Wednesday’s National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame scholarship dinner.

Jergensen and Nelson both received a $3,500 college scholarship from the Clark County Chapter of the NFF during its 18th-annual dinner at Hudson’s Bay High School.

Earning $2,500 scholarships were Skyview defensive end Dallin Shirley and Heritage quarterback Garrett Grayson.

Receiving $1,500 scholarships were Columbia River lineman Erik Inloes and Skyview defensive back Ian Zarosinski.

High schools in Clark and Skamania counties could nominate two players for scholarship consideration.

Nominees had to play high school football as seniors and carry a grade point average of at least 3.0. Scholarship winners are chosen based on academic and football success, and their contributions to the community.

This was the 18th year that the local chapter of the National Football Foundation has awarded scholarship money to high school senior football players.

Fran Ganter, a longtime assistant coach under Joe Paterno at Penn State, was the keynote speaker at Wednesday’s event. About 300 people attended.
