Prep roundup: Evergreen girls win battle of free throws

A game that featured 50 free throws was decided from the foul line in overtime on Friday.

Evergreen outscored Battle Ground 10-6 in overtime for a 64-60 win in a Class 4A Greater St. Helens League girls basketball game.

The host Plainsmen scored eight of their 10 points in overtime from the line, and all six of the Tigers’ overtime points came from free throws.

Justine Joudrey had 25 points, nine rebounds and six assists for Evergreen (12-2, 3-1 4A GSHL), which remained tied for second place with Heritage.

Shamerica Scott had 10 points and 12 rebounds for Evergreen, and Sheleena Giles hit six important free throws in the second half.

Battle Ground (7-7, 1-3 GSHL) had a shot at the win in the closing seconds of the fourth quarter roll off the rim.

Tori Dixson had 17 points and eight rebounds, and Haley Grossman had 14 points and 12 rebounds for the Tigers.

Battle Ground was 21 for 26 from the line, while Evergreen finished 14 for 24.

Heritage 55, Mountain View 49 — Tashawna Gordon scored 17 points, Clara Russell 13 and Allison Howbert 12 as the Timberwolves won at Mountain View.

Carly Holboke led the Thunder in scoring with 13 points and Emma Duchesne added 11.

Skyview 59, Kelso 33 — The Storm turned up their defensive intensity in the third quarter to pull away for the win at Kelso, improving to 4-0 atop the Class 4A Greater St. Helens League.

Skyview outscored Kelso 19-3 in the third quarter after leading 28-23 at halftime. Delaney Keser scored 10 of her 15 points in the third quarter.

Larissa Hamiliton grabbed six rebounds and blocked four shots. Macey Mukensnabl added 12 points for the Storm.

Hudson’s Bay 47, Columbia River 42 — Lexi Gleason scored 21 points, hitting four 3-pointers, as the Eagles picked up their first 3A Greater St. Helens League win. Bay won the game in the fourth quarter, helped by several key steals.

Brittany Davis scored four points in the fourth quarter and Kelsey Frasier hit a key 3-pointer for the Eagles (6-8, 1-3).

Aimee Bolton and Kass Cloyd scored 10 apiece for the Chieftains (6-8, 2-2).

Union 47, Fort Vancouver 25 — Felicia Odle scored eight of her 10 points in the first quarter as the host titans took quick command. Ten players scored for Union, which led 30-8 at the end of three quarters. Mar’shay Moore scored 10 points for Fort Vancouver.

Hockinson 53, Washougal 47 — Amanda McCarty scored 23 points, 13 in the first half, to lead the host Hawks to the Class 2A GSHL win. A 19-9 third quarter put Hockinson ahead to stay. Alicia McElroy scored 30 in the loss for the Panthers.

Ridgefield 53, R.A. Long 46 — Shelby Williams had 15 points, 13 rebounds and seven blocked shots as the Spudders won at R.A. Long to remain unbeaten in 2A GSHL play. Nichole Kates also had 15 points to go with seven rebounds.

Woodland 69, Mark Morris 39 — The Beavers made 10 3-pointers en route to the win at Mark Morris to also stay unbeaten in 2A GSHL play. Kaitlyn Moses had 18 points, hitting 4 of 6 3-pointers, to go with seven assists and three steals. Taylor McCullough made 4 of 5 3-pointers and finished with 13 points. Charity Arn added 12 points, and Kylie Moses 11.

Ilwaco 50, La Center 48 — Ilwaco outscored the Wildcats 11-5 in the final quarter to rally past La Center and claim first place in the 1A Trico League.

Ilwaco took the lead with 14 seconds. After getting the ball back, La Center was forced to foul. But the foul against the Wildcats was called intentional, helping Ilwaco seal the win.

Marissa Moore led La Center with 19 points, while Sydney Wise added six points and nine rebounds. Hannah Trigg had nine points and five assists.

Three Rivers Christian 29, Vancouver Christian 23 — Kim Morris had 13 points, 12 rebounds and 13 blocked shots for Vancouver Christian.

Boys basketball

Ilwaco 70, La Center 51 — Garret Davis had 18 points, five assists and five steals and Mick Jarvie had 10 points and nine rebounds for the Wildcats.

Stevenson 74, White Salmon 44 — Andrew Olsen scored eight points on three possessions late in the first half, helping the visiting Bulldogs make quick work of the Bruins. Olsen finished with 18 points, Nick Gavenas scored 16 and Kyle Russell 12 for Stevenson. Matt Brown led the Bulldogs with 11 rebounds, and Cody Lloyd’s defense helped to limit White Salmon’s Mark Lovin to 12 points.

Vancouver Christian 50, Three Rivers Christian 41 — Justin LaCasse scored 12 points and Jake Morris 10 to help pace Vancouver Christian.
