YWCA Women of Achievement to receive awards in March

Clark College, YWCA sponsor program to fete women's good works

Eight Women of Achievement and three Young Women of Achievement will be honored March 19 in an awards ceremony at the Hilton Vancouver Washington. This year is the 25th anniversary for the awards sponsored by Clark College and YWCA Clark County.

The 2010 Women of Achievement are:

oRenate Atkins, chief operating officer, Southwest Washington Medical Center.

oBobbi Bindreiff, certified public accountant.

oDonna Bleth, nail technician, Sole Purpose.

oJoyce Carter, educator and CASA volunteer.

oLeslie Durst, president, Friends of the Arts.

o The Rev. Marva Edwards, pastor, New Life African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church.

oLinda Glover, executive director, Gifts For Our Community.

oNancy Simmons, community partnership program coordinator, Larch Corrections Center.

The 2010 Young Women of Achievement:

oNadia Mousleh, a senior at Prairie High School.

oHolly Vogel, a senior at Ridgefield High School.

oJing Xue, a senior at Mountain View High School.

The Young Women of Achievement will each receive a $1,500 scholarship.

The Women of Achievement celebration was founded in 1985 by Pat Watne, director of Women’s Programs at Clark College. The event commemorates National Women’s History Month and International Women’s Day in March.

The ceremony is now the largest event honoring women in Southwest Washington. Since it began, 208 women have been recognized for their contributions to the local community.
