MEDFORD, Ore. (AP) — An 18-year contract between the American Band College and Southern Oregon University in Ashland has been terminated.

The nonprofit corporation that offers a three-year master’s degree in music will remain in Ashland but no longer operate on the Southern Oregon campus.

The band college’s degrees will be conferred by Sam Houston State University in Texas.

The Medford Mail Tribune reports that band college officials say the university raised the price to confer credits. Scott McKee, the band college’s managing director, says students would have paid several hundred dollars more if the school had accepted SOU’s planned cost increases.

By contracting with Sam Houston State, the college will be able to maintain its current tuition and fees of $11,792 for the 45-credit program, McKee says.
