The search for Washougal’s Walt Ratterman continues today in Haiti, said his wife, Jeanne Ratterman.

She said she received this e-mail today from the State Department: “Two U.S. Search and Rescue teams continue to work the Hotel Montana site and a rapid response team is ready to act immediately should any survivor be discovered at the site. The discovery of a Haitian survivor yesterday has caused the Haitian government to continue the rescue effort throughout the country.”

Jeanne Ratterman said, “We are excited that (the search) is continuing.”

Walt Ratterman has been missing since the Jan. 12 earthquake in Haiti. He was staying at the Hotel Montana in Port-au-Prince.

Jeanne Ratterman also said a petition asking Congress to demand the search for survivors continue until Tuesday (14 days since the quake) has been signed by more than 3,000 persons.

Walt Ratterman was in Haiti to work on solar-energy projects. His work has taken him to remote spots around the world.
