SALEM, Ore. (AP) — A 36-year-old Salem woman has been charged with murder in the death of her newborn baby girl whose body was found 20 years ago in a park.

The Marion County district attorney’s office says that if convicted, Stacey Quintero would face a life sentence with a minimum 10 years in prison under 1990 statutes.

The Oregon state medical examiner’s office determined the infant was born alive and was asphyxiated. At the time, the baby found at Gilmore Field on May 9, 1990, was known only as a “Jane Doe.”

Deputy District Attorney Jodie Bureta said Monday that Salem police never stopped investigating the case.

Quintero is being held without bail at the Marion County Jail. Her next court appearance is set for Feb. 2.
