WASHINGTON (AP) — Former Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson is planning to testify before a House probe of bailout deals that sent billions to banks including Goldman Sachs Group Inc.

Congressman Edolphus Towns of New York says Paulson is expected to testify Wednesday after Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner, who headed the Federal Reserve Bank of New York as it managed the bailout of American International Group Inc.

Towns chairs the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform.

Lawmakers are investigating why New York Fed and Treasury Department officials approved deals to give AIG’s business partners billions of its bailout dollars. They want to know why officials kept those banks’ names secret.

E-mails show officials often asked AIG to disclose less than the company planned.
