BOSTON (AP) — Massachusetts Sen.-elect Scott Brown is targeting Feb. 11 as his swearing-in date.

The surprise victor in last week’s election to succeed the late Sen. Edward Kennedy in the U.S. Senate believes that will be enough time for the state to complete its certification of his win.

Senior adviser Eric Fehrnstrom says the focus now is hiring staffers for the Republican.

This week, Brown is also giving a series of media interviews, including a sit-down with ABC’s Barbara Walters that will air Sunday when she hosts “This Week.”

Brown is also spending time reaching out to traditional Democratic constituencies. He started Tuesday with a courtesy call on Boston Mayor Thomas Menino.

Brown is also having another closed-door meeting with black clerical and community leaders.
