PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — The University of Portland is banning the sale of disposable plastic water bottles on its campus.
Effective next Monday, the school will no longer sell or use the bottles. Students, faculty and staff are being encouraged to drink tap water and use reusable containers. School officials say it will not only reduce the amount of waste on campus but will call attention to the issues of sustainability and water rights.
The university says more than 20 schools nationwide no longer sell disposable bottles.
