Skyview reached the middle of the Class 4A Greater St. Helens League boys basketball schedule unbeaten in league play, but it took a late sure on Tuesday at Heritage to get to 5-0.

Jordan Chatman scored 18 of his 25 points in the second half, including 11 in the fourth quarter to lead the Storm to a come-from-behind 66-60 win over the Timberwolves.

“Chatman came alive and we did a little better job defensively and got some easy baskets,” Skyview coach Bob Benson said. “It was struggle, to their credit. They had a good game plan and it took us some time to solve that.

“They played a heck of a lot better than a 3-12 team.”

Jeff Parrish and Ben Lyons scored 16 apiece for Heritage (3-12, 1-4).

Dallin Shirley scored six of his 10 points in the fourth quarter, when Skyview (10-5 overall)outscored Heritage 25-13. The Storm took their first lead with about three minutes left in the game. Blake Bowen had 10 points and 10 rebounds, and hit three big free throws in the fourth quarter.

Evergreen 59, Mountain View 55 — Warren Edmondsen hit a key 3-pointer and visiting Evergreen made free throws down the stretch to hold off Mountain View.

Caleb Dressler scored 18 points and Stefan Foulstone added 12 for the Plainsmen (5-10, 2-3), who led by seven entering the fourth quarter. Mountain View tied the game a couple of times in the second half, but the Thunder never took the lead.

Evergreen 47, at Mountain View 43 — Justine Joudrey had 28 points and 10 rebounds as the Plainsmen fended off a late rally by the Thunder.

Shamerica Scott added nine points and eight rebounds for Evergreen, which led 35-28 after three quarters and withstood Carly Holboke’s barrage of 3-pointers. Holboke hit five shots from behind the arc and scored 18 points to lead Mountain View, while her sister Haley had 11 points and 11 rebounds.

Evergreen coach Jay Foreman said his team was fortunate to win despite shooting 17 of 54 from the field and 9 of 25 from the free throw line.

“We didn’t play really well,” he said. “Evergreen’s shooting percentage was 31 percent. When you shoot 31 percent, you’re really not supposed to win — but we’ll take it.”

Mountain View got no closer than two points in the fourth quarter, but Foreman was impressed with the home team’s determination.

“As the coach of the opposing team, I commend them,” he said of the Thunder. “They played really well. They played really hard.”

Woodland 58, Ridgefield 51 — The Woodland Beavers secured the first battle for first place in the Class 2A Greater St. Helens League.

Charity Arn and Kaitlyn Moses each scored 14 points, leading four players in double figures for the Beavers, who improved to 4-0 in league play.

The game was decided at the free throw line. Woodland was 25 of 33 from the stripe, and the Spudders struggled, making 16 of 33.

Woodland was 8 for 8 from the line in the second quarter. Woodland coach Glen Flanagan said that was key, because at the time, Ridgefield was looking to pull away from the Beavers.

Woodland got defensive in the second half.
