OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) — The Washington state House has approved a measure to freeze bonuses for some nonunion state workers.

The bill passed on a unanimous vote and now heads to the Senate for consideration.

It would suspend recruitment and retention awards, as well as performance pay for managers and executives, through June 30, 2011. Lawmakers are working to patch a $2.6 billion budget hole during the 60-day legislative session that ends March 11.

The bonus freeze is House Bill 2998.
