EUGENE, Ore. (AP) — Eugene police say two men have been arrested following an assault on University of Oregon football player Rob Beard.

The Eugene Register-Guard reports that 19-year-old Kirby Taylor Hawkins was arrested Thursday and charged with second-degree assault. It says 20-year-old Maurice Dion Peterson was arrested Wednesday on the same charge. Both are Lane Community College students.

Beard, a 19-year-old placekicker for Oregon, was badly beaten Sunday after coming to the aid of a friend during a fight. His mother, Leslie Beard, says he was released from a hospital Thursday and is doing well and resting at home in Eugene.
