BUENOS AIRES (AP) — Argentina’s Central Bank chief says he is resigning because he has not been able to perform his functions amid a dispute with the president over the control of the bank’s dollar reserves.
Martin Redrado said in a news conference Friday that his term at the Central Bank is over.
Redrado’s resignation comes as a congressional panel has been considered whether to approve or reject a decree by President Cristina Fernandez ousting the Central Bank president.
The president ordered Redrado fired Jan. 7, charging him with dereliction of duty after he refused her order to set aside $6.6 billion in bank reserves to pay national debt due this year. A judge blocked Fernandez’s decree and the matter went before the congress.
