CHEHALIS, Wash. (AP) — A 57-year-old man has been charged with kidnapping and burglary in a break-in at a Centralia credit union.

Police say Michael Lar was hit by two shots from a Centralia officer who responded Monday to a call about a suspicious person at the TwinStar Credit Union. The man was treated at a Seattle hospital for gunshot wounds to his elbow and his hip.

Lar appeared Friday before a judge in Chehalis.

Deputy Prosecutor Kjell Werner alleges that Lar broke into the credit union and waited for an employee to arrive early Monday, holding the woman at what she believed to be gunpoint. Court documents say the weapon was actually a BB gun.

Another employee called for help. The arriving officer pulled the credit union employee clear and fired at the man inside, who managed to escape. Lar was arrested Monday night.

He’s being held on $1 million bail in the Lewis County Jail.
