LAS VEGAS (AP) — Miss America Pageant organizers say contestants from Michigan and Oregon have won awards during preliminary competitions in Las Vegas.

Miss Michigan Nicole Blaszczyk won a $2,000 scholarship Thursday night for her dance performance to Beth Hart’s “Lifetime.”

Miss Oregon CC Barber won $1,000 during the swimsuit competition after strutting the stage in a black bikini.

The composite scores from the preliminary competitions count 30 percent toward the final competition, to be held Saturday night at the Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino on the Las Vegas Strip.

Besides the talent and swimsuit competitions, the contestants also are judged on a private interview, an on-stage question and an evening gown competition.
