SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) — State Corrections Secretary Eldon Vail says the state will delay plans to close the Pine Lodge Correction Center for Women to see whether it can be shared with inmates from Spokane County and the city of Spokane.
Vail said Thursday he needs time to consider proposals from the county and city. The 350-inmate prison was on a list of 10 institutions the state plans to close to save money.
Sheriff Ozzie Knezovich (kuh-NEZ’-oh-vich) told The Spokesman-Review he and Mayor Mary Verner have discussed using Pine Lodge as part of a joint corrections operation.
